I have a HP laptop with a GeForce Go 7200 graphic card. Glxgears returns 1635 FPS in a small window and 235 FPS in a maximised window. Are these counts normal or should they be higher?
You tell me. I have a 7950 GT card with 256 mb, and in a small window I get this:
64372 frames in 5.0 seconds = 12874.231 FPS
And a maximized window I get this:
10523 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2104.410 FPS
I have noticed that if you cover up the small window with the terminal, your scores will go even higher, I guess because nothing is being rendered at that point.
BTW, I have the Nvidia proprietary driver installed. Do you?
You definitely get more FPS than I do
I use OpenSuSE 11 and the “nvidia-gfxG01-kmp-default” and “x11-video-nvidiaG01” drivers from Yast. I have assumed that these are the official releases from Nvidia, but I am not sure anymore.
After a quick search on the internet I find out that the GeForce 7200 card is regarded to be part of the lower segment of performance. Maybe I should not expect to much from it?
Go to the console and enter the command
nvidia-settings
This will tell you if your driver is installed properly or not.
The numbers seem a little low, but I have a notebook with ATI integrated graphics and the numbers are similarly unimpressive.
I am sorry for this late reply but my laptop broke down. All the fps-testing killed it lol!
The Nvidia driver seems to be installed correctly. I use the Nvidia driver version 173.14.12 and it was installed from the NVIDIA repository.
I assume this is the proprietary driver from Nvidia. Am I correct?

Dang! Same prob here! I get this:
6264 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1247.166 FPS
7148 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1419.772 FPS
and my cars is a nVidia 9800GT 512MB!!!
