nVidia 8800GT

Hello everyone,

first of all i would like to say thanks too all the members who helped me get started with SuSE11.0. I just finished installing it and my first impression is “WOW” I LOVE IT!

I have a small problem though, my desktop icons, my firfox screen, everything is kinda blurry as if my drivers for my video card are not installed, how can I install them? I have a nVidia 8800GT Video card and a Samsung SyncMaster 225BW 22" Plasma screen.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Have a read here;
Nvidia

Some people have issues with the 1-click install, I’ve never used it
but have tried the nvidia drivers from the repository without luck.

I’ve always used the ‘Hard Way’ with the proprietary drivers downloaded
from;
Nvidia Unix Drivers

Better IMHO to do it the easy way then you don’t have to reinstall when the kernel or xorg is updated

You only need to redo the driver after a kernel update with the
proprietary driver.

My concern is you are also still relying on nvidia to update their
repository in sync with openSUSE after a kernel update.

Not strictly true i had to reinstall the drivers with certain xorg updates can’t remember which as it was a while ago that i used the propriety drivers

Dang I must have been lucky then :slight_smile:

Each way seems to have it’s pro’s and con’s and mileage seems to vary
from user to user, hardware to hardware :slight_smile: It is a bigger download as
well if you update the kernel and kernel-source.
