Nvidia 320GT Opensuse 11.2 64 bit

Hei there,
I wanted to install OpenSuSe on an Acer AX3900 with an Nvidia 320 GT. Everything went fine until more than the standart grafik was needed.
Firstly I found a Beta driver for my card, the only problem is that driver version is for 32 bit systems.
Therefore I downloaded the Nvidia driver from their site, 300GT series for linux 64 bit. After some troubleshooting with missing header files I found a solution with the help of this and other Forums. I installed kernel-header, kernel-devel and kernel-syms, after that I had to cloneconfig the kernel in /usr/src/linux.
After that my current state is that the installer throws “Unable to build the NVIDIA kernel module”, and I do not know what to do I only found some “historic related” Threads about old cards, but my problem is, a maybe too new, card.
Thanks for your support,
greetings
FreeWalka

Why don’t you use the nvidia repository and let YaST install the driver?
it never fail for my nvidia cards

Ok, after adding this to my repository list, I still get the error that I have no access to the installation medium.
ftp://download.nvidia/opensuse/11.2/
(Medium 1).
Check if server is available.
If I ignore this, which does not seem right, I find some Nvidia products in yast, but the newest is ‘Gefore 6 and newer’, further does it seem that no 64 bit version is available from this repository without accessing medium 1.

Download this one:
ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86_64/256.29/NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-256.29.run
Install the “Kernel Development Pattern” through the software installers and follow instructions you already have to install the driver. AFAIK the stable drivers do not support your card yet. This beta driver does, and it does a good job with the mentioned card.
Remove /etc/X11/xorg.conf before attempting to start the X-server / your desktop.

Ehm, thank you my computer has done sth.
The Nvidia drivers are installed, but 3d has still his problems.
I tried Compiz, cause it is a preinstalled program which uses 3d and I also use it on my notebook, but it is horrible.
Very laggy, did someone know if it is just a setting or must I wait for the ‘real driver’ to get this working?
