NVIDIA 319.17 in repository

When could we expect the latest NVIDIA 319.17 stable driver (just released) into Opensuse NVIDIA repository https://en.opensuse.org/Additional_package_repositories#NVIDIA_drivers

I’m eager to try this new driver version. However if it looks like it could take months I’m tempted to install it manually.

I note neither the NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-313.30 nor the NVIDIA-x86_64-319.17 function on my 64-bit openSUSE-12.3 KDE with nVidia GTX260 graphic hardware:

02:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: NVIDIA Corporation GT200 [GeForce GTX 260] [10de:05e2] (rev a1)
Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. Device [1043:82cf]
        Kernel driver in use: nvidia

… but as can be seen above and below (in the quoted text inside ‘code’ tags) the NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-310.40 runs fine. Another indication of this driver:

Graphics: Card: NVIDIA GT200 [GeForce GTX 260]
           X.Org: 1.13.2 drivers: nvidia (unloaded: fbdev,nv,vesa,nouveau) Resolution: 1920x1200@60.0hz
GLX Renderer: GeForce GTX 260/PCIe/SSE2 GLX Version: 3.3.0 NVIDIA 310.40

I note that I always install the nVidia proprietary graphic driver using the manual method from the .run file (and not via repository method)

have you tried to update xorg, mesa before to install nvidia 319?

Yes. Re: xorg I installed these prior to trying to install nvidia 319.17 :

It was after that 01-May update when I unsuccessfully attempted to install with the new 319.17.

I have only used NVIDIA from the repository.

The latest driver has landed in the Opensuse NVIDIA repository today… nvidia-gfxG03-kmp-desktop-319.17_k3.7.10_1.1-12.1.x86_64.rpm
Will try it out immediately.

kernel 3.9 installed, when i select nvidia driver, there is a downgrade to 3.7…

Of course. The kernel modules in the 12.3 nvidia repo need kernel 3.7 as included in 12.3.
That’s why the rpm is called “nvidia-gfxG03-kmp-desktop-319.17_k3.7.10_1.1-12.1.x86_64.rpm”

If you want to use another kernel version you can’t use the rpms from the nvidia repo.

ok thanks for this info
