When I first built this system, I was using the 17x series drivers that the one click installer linked too. Last night, I upgraded to the new 180 drivers.
Now, when I log in (or out) of KDE 4.1, I get garbage displayed on the screen (brief flickers - 1 to 2 seconds at a time) while the process is working.
I had not experienced this using the 17x drivers (even with the performance configuration changes defined here): NVIDIA - openSUSE
System Attributes:
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E7200 @ 2.53GHz
Chipset: nVidia C55 Host Bridge
Graphics: GeForce 9600 GSO/PCI/SSE2 (600/900MHz)
This describes the exact issue I am having:

I doubt that I am the only person experiencing this. I am disappointed (again) in the quality of Nvidia’s drivers. At least with the 17x drivers I was able to make adjustments to improve the performance.
I am not sure what to do here. In the interim, I have switched back to the 177 drivers with a custom compile - everything seems to be working.
Does anyone have any insights as to what (if any) settings I can change to resolve the issue?
Unless there is an easy fix, I would go so far as to advocate that the one click installer revert back to installing the more stable 17x drivers by default (and leaving the 180 drivers as an option for the braver souls out there).
