NVIDIA 180.17 BETA + Unstable KDE4 + BeSpin

If you plan on using the BeSpin style you might notice that on a laptop with a NVIDIA card that some things go so slow it’s not really usable.
For example the ‘sliding’ effect of the tabs in the default Application Launcher takes like 20 seconds sometime, however after a manual update to the NVIDIA beta driver. This no longer seems to be a problem as it’s performing brilliantly.

Still feels a tad faster on the desktop then it does on the laptop, but that might just be me. Or maybe it’s just the difference in hardware power.

Not seeing any anti-aliasing on the KWIN effects setting “Override application settings” with AAx8 though.

Why would you want to use 180.17 beta?

180.18 beta was much better.

But even better is the stable release 180.22

Linux Display Driver - x86

Heh that’s awfully strange, if you enter ‘beta’ drivers in combination with 9600M GT in the search options it actually comes up with stuff older than the stable.

My bad I guess… went with the logic that there is always a newer beta then there is a stable.
Repositories still at 177.82.

Repository will likely stay right where it is, it usually does.

If you want the latest driver you need to remove or disable the nvidia repository, uninstall the drivers in Yast and install the drivers from nvidias web site.

At least there is an assigned P2 bug for this, so there is hope there’ll
be happening something in the not too distant future…

Looks like I had a reason to use the beta drivers after all, tried installing the stable ones and they compile just fine but it wont let me run sax2, so installed the beta ones again (luckily still had them on the disk) and they let me configure everything just fine.

Weirdness, but /care, whatever works

@ brucecadieux
Could you please give the driver side of 180.22 because I was looking for and it was only 177.xx.
Tnx for your kind to answer my Question.

Not sure what you mean.

The link I posted is for the 180.22 driver.

Mmh reading this again, I realise I might have actually used your link… leading to the 32 bits drivers, which I imagine would give me some problems on a 64bits OS.

Guess I’ll give it another go with the 64 bits ones

Well don’t know which I used at my first attempt, but the 64 ones wont do anyways…

Installed the 180.22 and SaX2 will not start , dropped back to 180.17 , the 180.22 are flaky .
sax2 -r -m 0=nvidia , no worky .
