Nvidia 1030 and driver problems

Trying to replace old 630 card with new 1030

Initially the older 04 driver I had installed worked but I thought I should try the 05 driver. BIG MISTAKE.

Apparently the newer drivers are not started (maybe DRM???) Maybe I should try hard way. At the moment best/only 1280/1024 should get 1920x1080

BTW I boot MBR and have safe boot off

Hi
AFAIKT you need to update the system to the latest kernel?

What I suggest is boot the system to multi-user target, remove the nvidia drivers, make sure all bits nvidia bits are gone, shutdown, replace cards and fire the system up. Then look at installing the G05 drivers, or look at using the hard way? If going the hard way route, just ensure gcc, make and kernel-default-devel is installed.

Did you do any Xorg tweaks, or using Wayland? Before upgraded my test machine to Leap 15.2, no issues with the 450.x drivers and a GT710.

No wayland

Kernel should be up to date will check. Yast says it is

tried the 05 and 04 drivers on both 530 1030 cards. get same results NVIDIA does not load. If I add a xorg.conf I get no GUI without I get 1280/1024. I don’t understand the mkinitrd “Omitting driver nvidia_modeset” seems that would break things, yes???

Note I had NVIDIA repo off for some time. forget why I did that but I was running 04 version before or around Nov last year. That worked with both cards.

going to try 390.129 that may be the one I had locked down

No go…

still not loading :’(

Success lol!

ran installer a second time and this time it took. maybe because I ran mkinird in between???:\

any how got 630 card working again will try 1030 card tomorrow
