Nvida driver not working after kernel update

I just installed the latest updates and my nvidia driver is not working anymore. I tried to reinstall but still nothing happens => cannot enter X.

I try sax2 -r and I get “module nvidia not found” in /var/log/SaX2. Any idea ?

I have to mention I use the latest G02 drivers from the nvidia repository (version 180.29_2.6.27.18_0.3-0.1-x86_64). By looking at the version they indeed don’t seem to be for latest kernel 2.6.27.19-3.2-default .

Anybody had the same problem ? Any ideas ?

Thanks,
Alex

I had the same issue earlier. Luckily, I had the nvidia driver installation file in my home folder. So, I just reinstalled the driver. And, all’s back to normal now. Maybe if I had used the nvidia drivers from the repository, I’d have not had this issue. But I prefer to manually install display drivers so that they are up to date.

good luck.

download the bin file and do a manual install.

Cheers

Don’t know if this works still , but in older SuSe OS you could type ‘vga=normal’ at grub menu , boot to desktop and then DL Nvidia driver either through YaST and install or Nvidia and manual install .

Or ‘vga=nv’ .

Thanks for the help guys.
The problem solved itself at some point…don’t really know how.
After installing/reinstalling different kinds of kernels and nvidia drivers…it finally worked.
Just when i was about to compile the nvidia driver for the last opensuse kernel
(Not really sure what the problem was…but I think it was a problem with the symlink from the kernel:/lib/modules/2.6.27.19-3.2-default/weak-updates/updates to the nvidia driver /lib/modules/2.6.27.18-0.3-default/updates/nvidia.ko)
