NumPad on Keyboard is not working

Hy!

I installed the new 11.2 Version with KDE 4.

My problem is, that I’m not able to get the num pad on the keyboard working. I can switch it On and off but when I want to use it in some apps like KWrite it’s not working.

It seems to be a generally error, because I tried several keyboards. USB, PS2 , older ones, new Cherry, …
It’s always the same. I have a german keyboard layout and all keys including the € sign and the special keys for play, stop, … are working except the num pad.

The strange thing is. When I switch to another console e.g. ALT+F2 the num pad is working. So I think it’s an problem in KDE. But I can not find the error.

I’m using OpenSuSe for a long time, but this problem never happened before.

Have you got some solutions?

I don’t know if this is the same as what you are talking about or not, but on my keyboard when the NumLock light is OFF, the numpad is actually working. Have you tried that?

I have also noticed some strange behavior with Caps lock.

maybe not a solution…maybe only a hunch: open YaST, give the root
password and then go Security & Users (on left) and Group Management
(on the right)…select “User” at the top and then add a new user, say
for example, Tester

then, log out and log back in as Tester…does your numPad work now?
if so the problem lies somewhere in one of th hidden files in
/home/[you]/ and you can find which one with a LOT of patience and a
tool like diff comparing /home/[you]/.[filename] to
/home/Tester/.[filename]

if it is still broken in Tester, post again…

Thanks DenverD!

When I create a new user the numpad is working correctly.

So, I’m going to migrate my settings step by step to the new user and wait for the error to occur. Hopefully I will localize the error.

Check the differences in Systemsettings - Country… - Keyboard …, most probably a different keyboard model is selected. Then rather migrate the new user’s settings to the old one’s, it would make the error disappear instead of having it in 2 accounts
