npviewer.bin eats up cpu in 11.3

hey guys,

I use OpenSUSE 11.3 x64, on an HP laptop
and the problem is that the cpu fan just goes up and it’s annoying…
and I have found that it does this because the cpu goes up also, and especially when the system uses npviewer.bin which, according to top it sometimes, uses 94% of the cpu…
and because of that and heavy flash web pages firefox crashses…

i’ve done some research but couldn’t find a solution…

does anybody have a good solution to this one??

thanks

the ‘goog’ solution is to not use Flash …just remove it from your system…

now i know you won’t like it with no (for example) youtube…but, the
solution is to banish that Adobe pig from your machine…

alternatively, you can try to find a video driver which might work
better with Flash…

oh, you could unload other parts of your system so everything you have
it available to Flash…like turn off desktop effects, pick a lighter
desktop environment…etc…

unfortunately: there is no ‘fixing’ of Flash other than having the
latest one available for your version…hmmmm, i see you are running
11.3, are you also running the kernel provided for 11.3 or have you
upgraded it to 3.x?

and, you could try to not use Flash video in full screen…

or, you might get lucky and this guy’s tip works for you (i don’t
remember if it worked for me, or not):

bottom line: Flash is a problem to some degree on all systems, and a
bad problem on some systems…

thanks or your reply,

I still have kernel 2.6, should I upgrade? would it be better?

unfortunately I don’t use flash at full screen, it’s just parts of the website i visit, and still it consumes a lot of resources from my system…
I better video driver, I’m afraid it isn’t for my ****** video card (ATI Xpress 200)
i’ll try the link you sent me… and maybe I’ll find a solution there…

thanks

i would not (others may have a different opinion)…there are, if i
recall correctly, some worse problems with some of the later kernels and
Flash…
