Novell iPrint on OpenSUSE 11.1

Hi!
With OpenSUSE 10.3 iPrint was working. I was printing to a Novell iPrint-server and had no problems at all.

Now i upgrade til OpenSUSE11.1 and now iPrint does not work at all. I downloaded the lates iPrint Client that was released 13.januar 2009 and tried to install.
It claims i miss “libglitz.so.1”.
I searche for this file in Yast and find Glitz-i586
Installed it and now iPrint Client did install witout any errors.

Now i try to install an iPrint-printer that have a Linux-driver attached. Firefox crash everytime i try to install this printer. I tried both as normal user and as root but with same result.

So…I know the normal respons is “Novell doesnt support OpenSUSE but only SLED”. I dont like SLED because its not near as good as OpenSUSE. SLED does not support any multimedia and i had several unresolveable problems with it.

Novell develop Novell Client for OpenSUSE, so why not iPrint Client?

hello,
first, i’m french so excuse me if my english is bad.

i’m very interested with your feedback .
i’ve got same probleme and i try to solve it from many times !
like you, irpint client 4.26 works very fine with my opensuse 10.3 but doesn’t work with 11.0
i have installed 4.38 client with 11.0 but still a probleme.
install via Firefox hangs.

have you try to install a printer via the iprntcmd command ?
like : iprntcmd -a ipp//serveurippadree/ipp/printer_name

work better but authentication for local root/cups user failed.

any idea ?

Perhaps it’s because iPrint is mainly built for the SLE OS and the latest one is still 10, 11 is still under development.

hello,

i’ve solved my problem and i can say now :
Iprint client 4.38 can run on Opensuse 11.0

how to :
downgrading cups version with cups 1.2.12-22 (available with opensuse 10.3)

i’ve replaced cups, cups-autoconfig, cups-backends, cups-client, cups-drivers, cups-libs.

then, you have to take 3 files from opensuse 10.3 and replace on 11.0: kdeprint_cups.so, kdeprint_cups.la (/opt/kde3/lib/kde3) and libprintbackend-cups.so (/usr/lib/gtk2-2.0/2.10.0/printbackends/)

dont’ forget to set lppasswd.
i’ve just tried printer install with command line iprntcmd

last word : i work with secure iprint so my package is novell-iprint-xclient-sh-6.500.20081007-1.i586.rpm. (sh mean secure high)

i wish my explain was clear :stuck_out_tongue:

Hi,

For Open SuSE 11.1, please use the latest iPrint client v 5.00.
