Hello all, looks like my quiet life with Nouveau finished. 4.12.14-lp150.12.73 arrived but still no fix. Yes, I can boot with “nomodeset”, but it don’t allow to use my nice second monitor (or I don’t know how). So I think I should try Nvidia drivers. So the 1-st question is: will it fix a problem? The 2-nd one is: which system should I choose, Bumblebee or Optimus (yes, the hw is laptop with integrated Intel and discrete GP107M [GeForce GTX 1050 Mobile] video)? Optimus installation guide is 5 times shorter and allows to use vanilla Nvidia’s drivers, so it looks the preferrable way for me, but I’m definitely noob in this area and some details can be invisible for me, so advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Think you confused. (understandably LOL)
Optimus is the special hardware that lets Intel and NVIDIA GPUs work together and requires special handling.
There are two paths to manage the drivers Bumblebee and suse-prime Either should work but they do work different in how the GPU switch is done. Bumblebee is per application, prime by session
AFAIK both should work with either Nouveau or the NVIDIA drivers.
Oh, sorry, I wrote “Optimus” but definitely meant “Prime”. Your remark “prime by session” made this solution yet more attractive. Thank you.
Oops! And where is suse-prime package? Where have it gone to without final farewell? I searched Opensuse-15-Oss and nooss repositories without any success. zypper se prime returned nothing useful too. So is the Prime obsolete now or I just searched the wrong place? Please help.

I tried Optimus & NVIDIA but it wasn’t working so I removed NVIDIA and I am using nouveau without any problem. CPU temperature is significantly lower which could come useful on laptop.
nouveau can save you many hours of trying and troubleshooting.
O! Thank you very much! Prime was found in 15.1 repository and installed successfully. I’m writing this looking to my nice big 2-nd monitor, not the small laptop’s one. Somehow this package was lost in 15.0. Speaking about nouveau: it was broken after lp150.12.70 on my hw. I found no solution for it excluding advice to boot with nomodeset. So I kept living on the previous 12.67 waiting for fix. 12.73 has not brought any relief and removed good old 12.67 (though I marked it in multiversion.kernels in zypp.conf), so I had no more choices to my knowledge.
You are welcome, I’m glad to help you
Are nouveau developers aware of this problem ?

For a Leap 15.0: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/X11:/XOrg/openSUSE_Leap_15.0/
You will need Full repository Vendor change with this repo for a right working update.
Thank you very much for help. It’s a very valuable advice.
