Following deano_ferrari’s advise about individual threads.
I read Polari replaced Xchat as GNOME’s default IRC client since 13.2, or so (Polari seems to be the one client app developed by GNOME…). I also know Xchat has been long deprecated and Hexchat took its due place.
I know I could just go and install Hexchat if needed, but… Back when I first used openSUSE I used Xchat because it was the default included one and turned to be good, but this new one looks even a bit “stranger” to start getting used to it… It even lacks some important networks in its default list, such as Rizon and some other ones.
Has anyone tried Polari? How is it? Or should I better start learning Irssi for a change?
I did run Polari once, hence my impressions about it already mentioned. I read it uses the Telepathy library, or something like that. Since I really don’t want any Polari trace I deleted the /telepathy directory that was created, can’t remember if it was in ~/.cache or ~/.config… Yet I noticed a ~/.local/share/telepathy directory, which contains 2 cfg text files which are practically empty (just a comment trying to describe nonexistent accounts).
So is it safe to delete this directory as well, or could it be it was generated by another application I never realized? Do Hexchat or Irssi make use of telepathy stuff as well?
Also, since I need to go out often I use a small Linux mini-distro livecd, which serves for quick/emergency stuff. Sometimes I also need to use IRC, but this one has an outdated Hexchat version (2.10.x, I think…) Is it of consequence to be logging in IRC with different Hexchat versions?

Hi
Looking at the openSUSE version changelog, in 2.10.2 there was use of
more secure openssl option used… Look at using a Tumbleweed rescue CD?

No, it’s another lightweight live distro to which I already got used to… but it only has version 2.10.x --cannot remember last digit. Yet, still, can there be security risks?
Could someone help with the first paragraph, the one asking about all the telepathy directories stuff?

Hi
Possibly, with respect to openSSL, you would need to look at the
changelog for the package/distro your using to see if they backported
fixes or not or install a later version?
AFAIK it’s only populated if using online accounts entered via System
Settings Online Accounts…

I know this is months old, but I think it’s still relevant.
Do Hexchat or Irssi make use of any Telepathy stuff in GNOME?
In general, is it safe to uninstall stuff default shipped with a certain DE, or would I actually break it? As in, if deciding to just stick to Hexchat thus not wanting to know anything about Polari, Empathy or Evolution…
I have no info stored for telepathy I use hexchat only…
ls .local/share/telepathy/mission-control/
accounts.cfg accounts-goa.cfg
cat .local/share/telepathy/mission-control/accounts.cfg
# Telepathy accounts
cat .local/share/telepathy/mission-control/accounts-goa.cfg
#Parameters of GOA Telepathy accounts
