NOT my fav box!

:frowning:
Luckily, I was able to boot back into the 3.1.1 desktop in advanced startup in Grub. And post here.

ASUS M2N-SLI(Nvidia nForce 560)
ATHLON64 x2
PNY GeoForce 610 GT
PNY XLR8 DDR2
various Seagate/WD drives
Hitachi BD-ROM

I just installed 130mb of an update from my 3.1.1 install to the new one, NOW I can’t boot into it as X starts up, most likely an Nvidia video driver compilation issue. Anyone?

Well which NVIDIA driver did you install I believe you need GO3 for the 610 family

Boot to a terminal, run yast and remove the current NVIDIA driver (note only packages with NVIDIA in the name) and be sure that you use the GO4 flavour only

to boot to terminal press e at the boot find line that starts with linux or linuxefi go to true end (it wraps) and add a space and a 3 press F10 to continue. Log in as root then yast

It’s the latest from the repository. I updated the driver a few weeks back and recompiled no problem, but the new kernel upgrade hosed the install. I’ll try your suggestion, as this upgrade went smoothly and routine on the AMD/ATI powered systems I have. Nvidia seems to be tricky, though.

I have the answer!
Kernel 3.1.1xxx will run fine in this config, but not 3.1.2xxxxx, it’s a hardware issue, much like I can run win7, but nothing newer on this box.
Thanks for your help.:shame:
