Normal temperature of Radeon

Hello to all, recently i bought myself a second PC with AMD processor to which i have attached a small form factor Radeon HD7470 (same as radeon 6450) aka “Caicos” which is based on Terrascale 2 architecture, it is fan-cooled not a passive one. I did this with the prupose to have AMD/ati only based PC and so far i have very good performance on Leap 15.5. Does anyone have an idea what are the normal running temperatures on this particular video card? Because i am having 49-50C idle temperatures which i consider a bit high for a low-tdp video card, unfortunately i have not tried to run this PC with windows OS so that i can have some comparison between the operating systems. The kernel version is 5.14.21 also i am running with opensource Radeon drivers (out of the box) which from what i have researched so far is the only option for this hardware.

You could have looked up the operating temperatures for the card to find out if it’s either normal or within spec instead of asking others if they even have the card.

I did some research on the net and didnt find any manifacture’s operating temps or something like this, just found some comments with different scenarios like overclocked ones etc, some even reaching 90+ degrees. Thats why i am asking here because there is not much info on the Linux side, or maybe i havent found it… And anyway arent forums made for people to ask questions, to find some similar experiances and help each other at the end of the day? If someone have had the same case why wouldnt this person just reply and try to help.

As a general rule, 50 C is not dangerous for silicon chips, so this is no issue. What happens when you heavily load the GPU? Maybe the fan increases its speed?

If you found someone here who actually has the same card and has temperatures 10 degrees lower, what does that mean? Or higher, what does that mean to you? It means nothing because you’re not running it in the same room, in the same case with the same cooling. Yours could be higher because there is less air flow. It could be higher because you’re in a warmer room, theirs could be lower because the orientation of the hardware in their case is different.

The only thing that matters is if the card is operating within spec, which is why asking on a forum. A google search for ‘radeon hd 7470 specs temperature’ finds what you want.

Asking questions that are answered by documentation is just asking for other people to do your research for you.

Above is technically inaccurate. The pinned first post at the top of this forum’s first page explains.

My low profile passively cooled HD 6450 in a GX780 SFF case is currently showing 52C idling two displays, after first checking to find 44C before I started composing here.
