noob needs help in setting up minimual (lightweight) virtual server under virtualbox

Hi. I’m new to opensuse, and need some help doing a very minimal server under virtualbox.

The only things i need out of it are:

mars_nwe (Netware server under Linux)

and a reverse telnet server (the dos machine is a bbs)

I need the virtual server to support a very old dos machine, and while i COULD use samba for drive mapping, the VNC server I’m useing on the dos machine is a progrm called TINY which pretty much means i’m stuck useing the novell dos network stack.

Can anyone give me any pointers/tips on how best to configure opensuse for this?

I’m running the install off of the live-dvd which has quite a bit selected by default.

I’m not in need of an x-server or a desktop manager, as this will be a set it up and forget about it once it works VM

go back in the install routine to this page
https://picasaweb.google.com/caf4926/114_DVD_Install#5581713871169429458
and, click on “Other” (rather than KDE or Gnome) and then you get a
chance to click on something like “minimal install, text only” choose
that and you won’t get X or any of the desktop environment…

then on this page
https://picasaweb.google.com/caf4926/114_DVD_Install#5581714689939673330
click on the green heading “Software” and this page pops up
https://picasaweb.google.com/caf4926/114_DVD_Install#5581714731290666738
where you can pick by ‘patterns’ …like, for instance if you wanna have
a mail server, just click…

or, go to Details (as noted) where you can then click on “Search” (tab)
and look for the missing pieces you need for you application…if they
are not there, hmmmmm install the skinny and then seek’em out using YaST

it might be very helpful to have an idea of what over the minimal
install you will need…or, maybe you need nothing but that novell
stack you mentioned…i guess you have it on disk…

if you run into trouble: remember i forewarned you i’m no guru, see my
caveat…
