Non-recognition of HP scanner by hplip and Yast Scanner

lsusb sees my HP Scanjet 7000 duplex scanner:

Bus 001 Device 006: ID 03f0:2d05 Hp, Inc Scanjet 7000

but hp-setup in hplip yields a ‘No device found’ error, and xsane doesn’t see it at all.

I tried Yast → Hardware → Scanner, and got:

hp2000S1 No scanner recognized by this driver.
hpgt2500 No scanner recognized by this driver.

I haven’t been able to find a source to download the appropriate driver for Linux.

I’m stumped. Can anyone offer troubleshooting tips for setting up this scanner in Tumbleweed KDE?

My hp scan only gets recognized by hplip after I reboot my computer, you might give it a try.

If your device is what HP calls HP ScanJet Enterprise Flow 7000 s3, the HPLIP site states it is supported with minimum version 3.16.10. However, it also says:
“How do I scan using the ADF in duplex mode?
This feature is not currently supported.”

That I did, matchbox56. Thanks for the suggestion.

Do you mind telling me what kind of scanner you have? I wonder if my Scanjet 7000 is no longer supported.

Thanks for the feedback, crmrhm. At this point, I’d be grateful if I could convince hplip to see it in any form, even without duplex.

According to HP Support only a Windows scanner driver is available, not even one for a Mac. According to SANE, they have no backend for it.
If the scanner has a wi-fi connection, download the HP Smart app onto your smartphone and see if it will connect and scan that way. My relatively new HP All-in-one has no scanner driver but I can scan easily from my smartphone.

In hp-setup, click the “Show Advanced Options” bar, check the “Manual Discovery” box and put 03f0:2d05 in the USB bus ID:device ID box. Click Next and see what happens.

I did try that with the Manual Discovery box, crmrhm, which I should have mentioned in my first post. Alas, same result.

If it isn’t enumerated by ‘lsusb’ or ‘usb-devices’ at least, that could indicate a kernel issue.

I fear that’s likely the explanation, john_hudson. No backend … and, unfortunately, no wi-fi connection, either.

Since switching to Linux, I have used the scanner through a Windows VM in VirtualBox.

lsusb does see it, though!

Sorry, I missed that. Yes, it will likely be missing sane backend support.

According to the HPLIP site, your scanner has a network connection. Correct?

Can you try that? Our HP MFC is on a network connection on our router. HP-setup finds it only with manual discovery putting in the MFC’s static IP address. Once setup it works great: print, scan, and fax.

Have you run:
hp-plugin

Sauerland: Yes, I did run hp-plugin. I thought that might work, too!

Crmrhm: I see now that I should have looked more carefully for a link to my scanner before posting … as there are different “Scanjet 7000s” online. Mine looks like:

https://www.imagine41.com/product/hp-scanjet-7000-sheet-feed-scanner/

which doesn’t have the network capabilities of the Enterprise Flow 7000 s3. I think I’m SOL in Linux, outside of USB passthrough with the Windows VM in VirtualBox.

If nothing works, maybe you can use vuescan???

I was hoping so, too, Sauerland! But: https://www.hamrick.com/vuescan/hp_scanjet_7000.html#technical-information
