NoMachine taking up too much bandwidth

I’m running a NoMachine server on OpenSUSE 11.0. I have the client running on a 10.3 machine. I had the idea that NoMachine has an economy of bandwidth, wherein if there is nothing that the client needs to be updated on (such as if nothing is happening on the desktop, or the client is minimized) then there would only be the smallest trickle of traffic between the client and server. Unfortunately, it seems that when nothing is happening on the desktop or the client is minimized there is a steady stream of 50kbps sent from the server to the client. When I connect to a certain Ubuntu server I don’t have this problem.
