Nomachine server error on fresh 12.1x64 install

I’ve never had a problem with nomachine nx server on opensuse before, even on 12.1x64 - usually up and running in minutes. I’ve been googling around the last few hours trying to solve a persistent problem. Tried deleting .Xauthority files, uninstalling and reinstalling, making sure the sshd was pointing on 2223, dropped my firewall, but this error message doesn’t give me much other information. Anyone seen this before? I’m about to try reinstalling OpenSuSE!

A dumb question … I see it is complaining about permissions in at least one location. Did you add the user to the group vboxusers (or what ever it is called - I can’t recall at the moment) and then log out of linux (not just Xwindow) and log back in again. Or just restart.

My apologies for this basic question, but I could not tell from your post if this had been done, and I do not know what error messages a failure to do that would generate.

check the ownerships on the files in /usr/NX/etc directory, sometimes they get changed to root but should be owned by nx:nx.
Also if reintalling nx delelete the whole /usr/NX directory . you can also try moving the ~/.nx directory so it gets rebuilt the first time it starts.

The nxserver command can output useful information.
nxserver --list
nxserver --userlisr

It was a fresh install of OpenSuSE12.1 - so I just did what I always do, install, then check to make sure the server was running - and bam this result. On a whim, I uninstalled nomachine and installed FreeNX server - and it seems to work fine. I did have to issue:

> nxsetup --install --setup-nomachine-key --clean --purge

But so far I didn’t have to change any config files to get the remote client to use port 2223 (instead of 22) - although I did install SSHD and told it to listen to 2223. I use that other port to forward between two different machines running nx.
