Nokia PC Suite

Hi,

I am a new Linux user and have replaced my windows with opensuse 11.1. I found it very easy to operate and got my network settings sorted out easily enough, but now need to get my mobile to work to connect to the internet.

Nokia pc suite made it very easy in windows, and I understand that i may need to set it up manually. Looking at other threads I found kinternet, but now I am lost…

I have a Nokia N96 mobile and use MTN South Africa. I do not know what the dial number is or the username & password as pc suite did this automatically.

Any assistance will be appreciated.

Thank you

Have you looked at nokia site for any linux software?
Haven’t used a cell phone for internet connection for years.
Does suse recognise the phone? If it does, you will probably need to go back to windows to check the setup details so you can enter them in linux.
MTN/Mnet used to (in the 80’s) have a redhat mirror and run redhat servers, so there may be someone there that can help you.
Also, search the forum for ssome clues.

You treat it like a modem and configure it with the modem config tool in Yast (under network devices). Here are three examples:

Wireless HSDPA broadband in Suse/openSUSE Using Nokia 6120 Mobile Phone as Modem on Three Mobile Australia
Wireless broadband in Suse/openSUSE for Bigpond Next G Network (HSDPA-enabled bp3-usb)
Wireless Broadband EVDO CDMA MM 5500SU usb modem in Suse 10.0, 10.1 - Bigpond

The first example is a Nokia phone.

Thank you very much.

It would appear that we here in SA on MTN use identical settings to those in australia for 3 telecom.

I used the exact settings as your example for the Nokia 6820?

Thank you again. I appears to be working well.

Excellent result
