No Wi-Fi security available in NetworkManager-connection-editor?

I’ve not used the connection-editor for some time now.
My version NetworkManager-connection-editor-1.8.6-1.1.x86_64

If I want to add a new Wi-Fi connection I can not select any Wi-Fi security. There is only “None” available.

What’s the problem?

My interface:

No such issue here. How did you upgrade your TW install?

When you create a New Connection,
You should first scan for SSID your system can detect.
And then when you select a particular AP,
The connection should be analyzed for the particular security required.

Did you go through these steps?
If, for instance you didn’t scan for networks then NM won’t know to enable WiFi security.

TSU

It is a hidden network. So I can’t scan.

The text console editor provides the options. And I also know how to edit the config files. Just want to make sure if it is a known problem.

I’m not aware of any such issue. Can you verify that your repos are correct/appropriate, and the system is in a consistent state?

zypper lr -d
zypper ve

Can you post as root:

/sbin/lspci -nnk | grep -iA3 net
lsusb
rfkill list all

I doubt this is hardware related. The OP mentioned that the ncurses connection editor behaves as expected - it’s just the graphical NM connection-editor that’s not displaying the wifi security options. (I’m running openSUSE Leap in a VM and no wireless interface, and even then one can use the connection editor can still create a wifi connection with security options offered as expected.)

I think it is also Hardware, because here are some points:

When I use

hwinfo --wlan

I get some more things (and yes, its Broadcom)

And I do not use this Card:

So for me the Question is:
Is the Card supported by iwl4965

Hi everyone,

I have the same symptom, but if I change in my router the *Security Mode *to **Disabled **I can connect without any problem, but this is not the solution that I want.

Best Regards,
Bruno Correia

I’ve got the exact same thing on Tumbleweed.
yesterday my wireless stopped working for my personal account.
i switched to root, and was still able to connect. then I didn an update and root was locked out as well.

The Security menu in the applet is empty when i setup a new connection.
Using wpa_cli, I can set wpa-psk, yet it’s not stored, and still doesn’t work.

When i start wpa_supplicant manually it does works (wpa_passphrase set in wpa_supplicant.config).
The running dhclient wlan0 sets an IP, and netconfig static DNS gives me full access to the network again.

Just ran another zypper up and dup, new kernel but still doesn’t work…

This is quite a show stopper…

Submitting a bug report is the best course of action here.

BTW, I assume you can also use the ncurses NM connection editor (nmtui-edit) to create the wireless encrypted connection without issue?

woah! no i didn’t know that one.
I just gave it a try and it works as expected!
So it’s only the X11 applet then…

I’ll file a bug for this, but first:
THANK YOU!

Thanks for the update. Please post the link to the bug report when submitted. It will be of interest to others.

And, do not user ‘zypper up’ on Tumbleweed Only zypper dup

Sorry to bump this thread, but this bug has been driving me nuts because eduroam stopped working for me and I cannot get it to work again. Did you file the bug report? If yes, can you link it please?

I found this bug report, so I guess we should follow the development over there

sorry for the late reply, i was a bit busy and struggling with the network doesn’t really help.

the nm-tui cli binary works for non enterprise security, not for the enterprise one needed for for instance eduroam.

i’ll add this to the link posted here, thanks for that

Since this is a one off experience, I’d like to see the repos configured:

zypper lr -d

and a statement about the method used to upgrade/update Tumbleweed.
