I’ve installed vlc, can’t play h264, I’ve searched a bit and learnt that I have to install vlc-codecs package, but there is none in 13.1 repository.
Just add the Packman repository and install vlc and vlc-codecs (and maybe phonon-backend-vlc) from there. Easy to add by going into Yast - Software Repositories - Add - Community - Select Packman - Next.
It’s in Packman, as always.
Enter YaST->Software Repositories, click on “Add”, select Community Repos and add the Packman repo from the list.
Then you should find the vlc-codecs package in YaST->Software Management.
Thanks, solved.
One note:
phonon-backend-vlc is not available on Packman for 13.1, because it is already included in the standard distro.
But there’s a problem right now. phonon-backend-vlc strictly requires VLC 2.1.0 (the one shipped with 13.1), but VLC has already been updated to 2.1.1 on Packman.
An update that fixes this is already submitted and should be available next week.
In the meantime one can tell YaST/zypper to ignore the conflict, it works despite of this.
Or install phonon-backend-vlc from KDE:Extra, there this requirement has already been relaxed.
Adding packman repos only gives the error:
Problem: nothing provides libpng15.so.15()(64bit)
So smplayer and vlc-codecs cannot be installed
This is what you need, works fine.
