No video with vlc

I am getting sound but not video running vlc of am mp4 fie

I have just upgraded fro leap 15.0 ad so fa this is the only issue.

mplayer and xine seemed OK though.

I have packman and Libdvdcss repositories enabled and have explicitly installed the recommendation in the sticky post. I do not run gnome or KDE or any other similar system. (in case that is an issue)

Try another Video Output Module in the Video section of the settings.

Sorry did not understand the last remark. I just run vlc filename.mp4
Do not select anything of which I am aware.

open vlc—tools—settings and change your video output.

Two questions arise

1: why did it work in Leap15.0 (and earlier) out of the box, but not l15.1?

2: To what do I change it?
Actually there is no Settings sub menu of Tools. I tred looking at them all without enlightenment

Tools -> Preferences -> Video -> Output

The output is probably set to “Automatic” - I had a similar problem a while ago on Tumbleweed (I think it was when vlc went from major version 2 to 3 if I recall correctly), for “some unknown reason” the automatic setting, which had previously worked OK, no longer did.

Try setting to “openGL”, or just go down the list until one works :wink: …
