i have a problem with the gnome desktop, when i try to see a .avi mpg … it comes a black screen so when i switch to the kde it works fine … can you help me ? It doesn´t matter wich player i use the same problem on each player e.g. vlc, kaffeine …

Do you use Gnome and / or KDE use with or without Desktop Effects?
That would be my thought?
With effects off - Is this still happening?
You might also mention the version. But I’m guessing 11.3 Also what video card and what driver?
Another rather speculative possibility is the same application video mode does not work for Gnome and KDE ? And so you may need to tune the applications video output mode so as to be more compatible with each desktop.
