No Video on Acer Aspire One

My mother just bought an Acer Aspire One which uses the Intel 945GME chipset for graphics, because it was pink. It came with Windows XP, and I was so proud, she asked me to wipe it and install Linux. She is finally coming around.

I did a internet install of 11.1 and everything was fine at first boot. I updated packages, rebooted, and suddenly xorg was borked.

I can boot into init level 3, but even sax2 -r -m 0=intel isn’t working. I can configure it to use vesa as the video driver, and then boot all the way into KDE.

I’ve tried adding the Xorg repositories and the latest Xorg files there, but no better. I’ve tried going back to the Xorg versions from the install repo (which worked originally) and again, no dice.

Ideally, what I’d really like is to try the new 2.7 intel drivers that Intel just released, but openSUSE does not package intel drivers separately, nor can I find anyone building them on build.opensuse.org.

My mother purchased this for a trip where she is leaving tomorrow, and needed it working right away. I’d appreciate any help I can get in getting the intel driver to work properly.

The tiny screen is bad enough, but 800x600 in VESA is worse.

This is how mine looks in Yast

Mine just works.

The video in mine shows as a 945GME, which is slightly different. It did work with the initial install, but not after an update.:sarcastic:

What repo’s have you added ?
Do : zypper lr

also what is the: lspci -k
show for you

if the kernel is version 2.6.27.21-0.1 try going back to the 2.6.19.x.x.x
(this should be the previous version)
I had a similar problem along with oldcpu, it seem to clear itself as i am now running 2.6.27.21-0.1, but i’m not sure why.

I heard it from another person that on Aspire one after an OpenSuSE
update X was gone.
I post you ( as I did for the other person ) mine /etc/X11/xorg.conf
installed on my AAO. Try to substitute your with this. With the
other guy it solved the problem.

my /etc/X11/xorg.conf from my OpenSuSE

I never changed xorg.conf and all that looks basically like the one I had.

I just wiped it, did a reinstall, updated to the latest packages, and it is working fine now. I can’t understand what the original problem is because I didn’t do anything differently.
