Hello all…I’ve not played default chess in linux ever. But I recently started…But I cant find “undo” option at all…Please help me with this…Thanks in advance.
What is default chess? Are you using xboard GUI to play against a chess program?
Just noticed there’s no chess at all in my 11.2 installation under “board games” - scandalous! Mind you, Undo in chess is cheating anyway!
Missing is xboard. 11.2 does come with a couple of chess programs which do not have a GUI ! Still, one can get xboard from “Education” repos and others:
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Education/openSUSE_11.2/
There is guidance here on how to use xboard with those chess programs:
Games/Chess - openSUSE
If you are one of the fortunate who managed to grab the chess src rpms from user Akoellh’s home repository before he removed them you will find that some of them also compile well under openSUSE-11.2, and if so one will then have even more chess programs available. I have some of them running on my new 11.2 install (as of last night).
An easily obtainable strong chess program for 11.2 is crafty, which one can find here from user snwint’s factory:
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/snwint/openSUSE_Factory/
although crafty is very easy to compile and one does not need to go to such a repository if one has the tarball. Crafty works well with xboard. Again, the Games/Chess - openSUSE page gives some guidance.
Yes I’ve seen that page. Just surprised that 11.2 doesn’t include a chess game by default, along all the tiddlywinks and other uninteresting stuff. And what’s computer chess without a GUI???
