No Synaptics Touchpad

I just installed openSUSE 11.3 on my Toshiba Satellite L505. I had previously been using Ubuntu and the touchpad wasn’t working there either, so I decided (for several other reasons as well) to switch to openSUSE. To my surprise, my touchpad is not working on this distro either. I’ve spent several hours trying to deal with this problem with no success.

Has anyone else had this problem?
How should I go about fixing this?

Hi,

The fiirst thing to do is to install Synaptiks On KDE. For this you should go to YaST>Software management and search for ‘synaptic’ or ‘touchpad’. Install it and then configure the touchpad on Configure Desktop>Keyboard & Mouse> Touchpad.

In my HP Envy, it worked though with some issues. Scroll(s) OK, Tapping Ok, On/OFF controls OK.

I am actually using gnome, and YaST package manager turns up no results for synaptics or touchpad.

Try a shorter Search key as there certainly is a Gnome package. Also locate 20-synaptics.conf as root and add
Option “TapButton1” “1”
to the file.

Thanks a lot, the touchpad on my pavilion dv4-1283cl is working great now with openSUSE 11.3 x86_64.
