Sidro,

Based on your posting and thread title, I am assuming that you have a sound issue. If possible, could you please post a question relating to your issue, maybe narrow it down to when the sound stopped, or if it never started, if this occurs only during certain applications. Help us, help you.

I solved my problem

sidro@linux-7c42:~> cat /etc/modprobe.d/50-sound.conf

options snd slots=snd-hda-intel

u1Nb.U6QKVB8hRoE:P5KPL-VM Motherboard

alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel

I put this in 50-sound.conf.
But why this conf file was missing from my system?
I don’t edit or remove files from my installation.

weird

Not really.
That file doesn’t exist by default.

It gets created by YaST if you configure your sound card in Hardware->Sound.

Although normally you should not even need that file, the correct driver should be loaded automatically.

Yes, because systemd is crapware.
And Yast2 is a ****ing retard to set my audio hardware.

Why?
I don’t know why systemd and yast2 are less advanced.
To many problems.

Now XFS stress my hard drive and KDE load horrible. This situation make my apps to load slow.

Why so many problems in one month ?

That’s your opinion. :X

And what does this have to do with sound or 50-sound.conf?

And Yast2 is a ****ing retard to set my audio hardware.

Then file a bug report.

Why so many problems in one month ?

I don’t have those problems here.

But then, I’m not using XFS, only reiserfs, btrfs, and ext4.
KDE4 is running though on all of my systems…

Systemd crash my Fedora in past, now systemd crash my sound in openSUSE.
Yeah it is not ****… it need several patches to work from openSUSE devs and others communities.
And another ******** promoted by RH is XFS ****.
This file system is like a hell, it is worse than ntfs.
After 30 days 27% fragmentation for my partition.
This is very good.

No thanks but openSUSE is too patched and too buggy now.

systemd has very little to do with your sound modules. You also don’t need to use YAST to configure the sound, in fact its better that you don’t.

Pray tell, where did you come up with this number?

Dear me I don’t seem to have these problems please tell us how you managed to produce them. I’d like to try them out. :sarcastic:

Maybe has something to do with the hardware you run because I certainly don’t see anything like what you say here.

Just one note:
XFS is not by RedHat but originally from Silicon Graphics, and it is much older than either reiserfs or ext4 (and maybe even ext2).
See here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XFS

And please, watch your tone.

If you are that unsatisfied with openSUSE, it would probably be better if you switched to another distribution.
As you seem to hate systemd as well though, you won’t have much choices left (soon at least) except for Slackware or Gentoo maybe.
So better switch to some BSD and pray that this will support your hardware well. (it won’t support it better than Linux, I dare to say… ;))

My hardware run without problems on Gentoo.
Is not my hardware fault.
I don’t do nothing special only update my system, nothing more.
Sound go without my intervention.
XFS fragment my partition like a hell without to move large files or large numbers of files.
Why?! I don’t know.
But I think is XFS bad implementation and systemd **** implementation.
Why things run very well on Gentoo with OpenRC and ext4?
No sound problems like this https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=896933
or like this
https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=921809

I don’t like cycle dependecies like Firefox and Thunderbird for integretion.
This is another bad implamantetion.

If I wnat to remove Firefox, zypper install Thunderbird.
This is a cycle dep and I don’t like.

And a lot of services start with systemd in openSUSE that I don’t need.
This services slow boot.

I want a fast and stable OS. I don’t like to manage an OS to stop scripts, remove unnecessary apps or packages.
I want a clean OS with one apps per task.

Next weekend I will reinstall Gentoo because I prefer to compile than to manage services from systemd, remove deps or apps from OS and to reinstall my OS after 30 days because something crash it.

I don’t need crashes, lot of bugs, cycle deps. I hate to post this but it is the truth. openSUSE is not very stable and deps are hell cyles deps.
Nothing was changed from 2011. Sorry but this is how I feel.

I will switch to Gentoo.
No regrets.

I reinstall openSUSE to match in 2 months.
For me it is over.

I’m still waiting for you to tell me how you came up with the number.

As someone who runs hundreds of SUSE servers without issues and under extremely high loads, I graciously disagree with you.

xfs_db -c frag -r /dev/sda6
actual 91894, ideal 89334, fragmentation factor 2.79%

In less than 24 hours.
Nothing write on xfs partition in 24 hrs.
My fault because I chose XFS.
I will revert to ext4.

And what do those two problems have to do with systemd or XFS?
Those are upstream KDE problems, and I myself closed one of them as upstream.
Are you criticizing this?

FYI, I am an upstream KDE developer too, and all of the openSUSE KDE team members are involved upstream as well.
And I think we (as in “me and the openSUSE KDE team members”) contribute more than Gentoo does, e.g.

I don’t like cycle dependecies like Firefox and Thunderbird for integretion.
This is another bad implamantetion.

What are you talking about?
And how does this relate to the things in this thread?

If I wnat to remove Firefox, zypper install Thunderbird.
This is a cycle dep and I don’t like.

Uninstall mozilla-kde4-integration and that won’t happen.

And a lot of services with systemd in openSUSE that I don’t need.
This services slow boot.

Well, that’s what a distribution caters for: enable services that most of the users they think need.

If you don’t need them, disable them.

Or, again, file a bug report if you think they are enabled without a need.

I want a fast and stable OS. I don’t like to manage an OS to stop scripts, remove unnecessary apps or packages.
I want a clean OS with one apps per task.

Right.
Then don’t install a full openSUSE KDE or GNOME system.
There are alternatives, even (and especially) in openSUSE.

Next weekend I will reinstall Gentoo because I prefer to compile than to manage services from systemd, remove deps or apps from OS and to reinstall my OS after 30 days because something crash it.

That’s probably better for all of us.

I don’t need crashes, lot of bugs, cycle deps. I hate to post this but it is the truth. openSUSE is not very stable and deps are hell cyles deps.
Nothing was changed from 2011. Sorry but this is how I feel.

Most users think otherwise, IMHO.

But good luck, and fare well.

Wow. Sidro, what really confuses me is if you had no problems with Gentoo and it was working fine for you, why did you switch? I would say that my question is more rhetorical than and actual question, as I am sure I already know the answer.

I am a service tech, and have been for about 30 years now. I have (and have had) customers like this, they are never satisfied no matter how hard you try. I think the big picture you are missing here is that the OS’s that you are so vehemently complaining about are free to you. Is OpenSuSE a perfect operating system? No, does it have issues that would need some tweaking by the end user? yes, but this is true with ANY operating system that I have ever used.

If you are that dissatisfied with the way this and other operating systems work/don’t work, then create your own. At least then when something does not work the way you want, you should be able to correct it immediately.

I think another huge point you are missing; this web site is here as a courtesy to us. The people here are always very helpful, especially members like Wolfi that ARE apart of development teams as he previously mentioned. Try to get this level of support out of Microsoft or Apple. I personally am grateful that this page exists, and very grateful that the members here have the patience to answer questions for me. Especially questions that may be routine for them, but are problems that I have yet to encounter.

Good luck to you… and Gentoo.
