no sound with suse 11.1 x86_64 n realtek alc 653

i have installed suse n there is no sound + at the boot when i boot see 30-50 some codec time-out errors which i think is problem. i tried to install alsa driver but couldn’t do coz i have little knowledge of cmd line installation.My pc"s config is

    with realtek alc 653 onboard sound card which i noticed from yast itself. n yes every thing was fine with xp but this problem seems to there with evry linux distro (i tried dsl, ubuntu, fedora, madriva))
  • sound control is not mute i mention this coz 1st ans to ques would be to unmute snd …SO plz plz plz help coz i cant bare this mute pc with great graphics coz of kde.

Are you using KDE or GNOME?

You can try installing xine backend for phonon. Go to “Install Software” and install phonon-backend-xine. Then in the KDE control center go to Sound and set Xine as higher priority in the Backend tab. Restart KDE and see if your sound works. Also make sure your PCM slider is all the way up.
