no sound with ADI AD1988B (ASUS M3A32-MVP Deluxe)

hi,

couldn’t get any sound out of opensuse11 with my ADI AD1988B sound card. its onboard and yast installed it without any problems.
but even the test-sound doesn’t work. i tried to fix it in kmix without success.
i actually got two sound devices in yast beeing installed:

  1. ATI Technologies Inc and
  2. SBx00 Azalia.

drivers are snd-hda intel both times.
Could it be that a 8 channel sound card needs more than one pair of speakers beeing attached? but even the front headphone-jack isn’t working.
i also tried some different bios-options but this didn’t work either.

Congratulations !

Out of curiosity, do you have 8 channel or 2 channel sound now? (Note, I don’t know enough to help with more than 2 channel).

If you ever do figure out your fix, please let us know! :slight_smile:

I have the same mobo, it’s 8 channel with HD sound capability.

I found mine defaults to the SBx00 Azalia.

i got 2 channel. sound is not this important.

erm, its not easy to say how i fixed it.

well… hm. ok. the speakers weren’t connected. :shame: :open_mouth:

yes, i know. quite stupid.
yast installed it without any problems.

but i would also like to know which quality the surround sound is.
