No sound with 12.1 - Realtek/VIA HDA sound card on Medion 8822 machine.

I am running openSuSE 12.1(x86_64) KDE on a Medion machine with a Realtek/VIA HDA sound card. I have been trying for quite some time to get sound from this beast, but up to now, I am having no luck.
I would be grateful to anyone who can be of assistance in helping to solve this problem.

Hi!

First I suggest you to check this thread:
http://forums.opensuse.org/english/get-technical-help-here/hardware/471264-no-sound-12-1-via-1708-chipset.html

First of all, it seems alsa doesn’t recognise your soundcard, and you don’t have /etc/modprobe.d/50-sound.conf or at least empty. Did you restarted the alsasound service before taking your attached infos? If yes, then restarting alsasound service removes your soundcard if there is no “alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel” line in /etc/modprobe.d/50-sound.conf.

I suggest you the followings:

  1. Make a system update, this is due to another bug.
zypper up
  1. Edit /etc/sysconfig/kernel file , and add “snd-pcm-oss” to the MODULES_LOADED_ON_BOOT section:
MODULES_LOADED_ON_BOOT="snd-pcm-oss"
  1. Create /etc/modprobe.d/50-sound.conf file, and include line “alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel” line into it:
gyurinas:~ # cat /etc/modprobe.d/50-sound.conf
alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
gyurinas:~ #

Reboot your machine.

After that let us know if something changed.
