No Sound Using older M-Audio Delta 2496 Audiophile Card

Well, I screwed up bigtime and broke my system. Will have to do a fresh install and I’m having problems with making a bootable image. Thanks for all help. I will tackle it again with a fresh system after I figure out how to get a bootable image.

OK. Did a reinstall, and no surprise, the lack of sound from the m-audio card is still a problem. I am not one to give up easily, because I think there must be a solution to the problem. Below is the output last requested.

john@localhost:~> pactl list sinks| egrep -i "port|output"
        Name: alsa_**output**.pci-0000_00_14.2.iec958-stereo
        Monitor Source: alsa_**output**.pci-0000_00_14.2.iec958-stereo.monitor
        **Port**s:
iec958-stereo-**output**: Digital **Output** (S/PDIF) (type: SPDIF, priority: 0, availability unknown)
        Active **Port**: iec958-stereo-**output**
        Name: alsa_**output**.pci-0000_04_05.0.analog-stereo
        Monitor Source: alsa_**output**.pci-0000_04_05.0.analog-stereo.monitor
        **Port**s:
analog-**output**: Analog **Output** (type: Analog, priority: 9900, availability unknown)
        Active **Port**: analog-**output**

Ok, and are the active ports as you expect? If not, change as required with pavucontrol.

Also, try testing your sound as detailed in the wiki.

OK mark this tread as solved. The Envy24 driver installs the M-audio Audiophile 2496 card with the volume control sliders in the 0 position. The only way to adjust the gain on this card is to separately install the Envy24 controller. The controller does not install with the driver. I have sound!!! (hi-quality sound) Thank you for your help. This tread should help anyone who is still tinkering with this old but very high-quality sound card.

Good to read of your success with this. I had to search up what you meant by Envy24 controller, and found that there is an ‘envy2control’ utility (package of the same name) described here:

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/envy24control

and a quick search located it
