Oh I apologize if strong text</code - tags /> * are not clear; having some issues with mouse copy/paste and keayboard action. Also, if this should be in Multimedia please move by all means. Will find out problem with tags before final post; sorry.

Mod edit - preformatted text.

I would start by removing that file completely:

/etc/modprobe.d/50-sound.conf

I can’t see that it adds any value to your configuration.

You could run the diagnostic alsa-info.sh script as described here:
https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Audio_troubleshooting#Script_to_run_to_obtain_detailed_information

Maybe these two commands as well:
pactl info
pactl list cards

OK, will remove and see. But the alsa-info.sh script info is in my OP. Will also try pactl commands.

OK, here goes. . .

HTH. And thanks for the help.

Both of your sound cards currently have their profiles set to ‘off,’ so no real audio output is active. Select the desired profile via the desktop sound utility or using pavucontrol.

You could also do this using pactl
pactl set-card-profile alsa_card.pci-0000_00_1b.0 output:analog-stereo

That did it! At least now my speaker icon on the task bar is unblocked, and clicking on it shows line-out or headphone options available; but still no sound from speakers. I’m thinking maybe a internal hardware switch? Anyway, will look further tomorrow after some needed sleep :slightly_smiling_face: I’m 75 yrs. now and slowing down some. Thank you so much for putting me on the right path.

That’s progress.

Get some rest, and you can pick it up tomorrow.

You may need to check that nothing muted via alsamixer. You can choose the card via the F6 key. Another way is to specify it directly. Based on the alsa-info.sh output, card 0 is HDA Intel HDMI and card 1 isHDA Intel PCH, so alsamixer -c1 should do the trick.

Make sure the Master, Speaker, and/or Front are not muted (MM → press M until it shows 00), volumes are turned up, and if there’s an Auto-Mute option, try toggling it off.

If pavucontrol is installed, this can be done graphically, and it’s often easier.
