No sound in some Gnome apps.

Any of my Gnome applications do not play sound. When I go to Computer, Control Panel, Sound and look at the Hardware tab, nothing is there. In the Output tab, ‘Dummy Output’ is the only item listed. In Sound in Yast2, the device shows correctly as Card Model - Thinkpad X61, driver snd-hda-intel. If I click on “Play Test Sound” through there, it works fine. Mplayer (from a terminal session), Gnome Mplayer, Banshee, and Totem all don’t play sound. They use to work until a recent update. Please help!

Running 11.2 Kernel 2.6.31.12-0.1 x86_64 Gnome 2.28.0

This has happened to me today just did an update and now I have no sound. The only way to get sound is by selecting 5.1 under Hardware tab of the Pulse Audio Sound Preferences Tab. If I do this it shows my card on the Output Tab as SB Audigy 2 ZS.

Selecting 7.1 only shows Dummy Output…

OK workaround rollback update for Pulse Audio and select to downgrade everything associated with it, reboot I now have 7.1 surround sound - Pulse Audio 0.9.19-2.3 (x86_64)

Version that seems not to support 7.1 is 0.9.21-1.1.1 (x86_64).
