Hello,
I recently did an update from 10.3 to 11.0. Now there is no sound. The sound card has been detected by YAST. It’s a C-Media CMI8738. In the previous i had to do nothing. Everything was configured with OpenSuse.

Often pulse audio will cause problems, … especially for KDE4 and Gnome users.
Still, you could try to follow the openSUSE audio troubleshooting guide:
SDB:AudioTroubleshooting - openSUSE
Thank you. It works.
Well the problem was that there were 2 sound cards detected. One built on the main board and C-Media PCI. I wanted C-Media to work. Under Yast i found the wrong one was set to value 0. I just disabled the one which I didn’t want.
Now the C-Media works. I had another question. I have a Logitech 5.1 Sound system connected to the PCI which is a 5.1 too. Unfortunately only 2 speakers and the Subwoffer work under Linux. Is there a way to configure the Sound system in Linux.
Thank you once again.
Glad to read it is working. It is actually possible to get both working, but its not easy (often requires a custom /home/username/.asoundrc file), and I have no experience with that so I can not offer any specific guidance.
Yes, 5.1 is possible, but again, I do not have a 5.1 system myself (I hope to get one for Christmas) so I can not offer any specific guidance.
I do note that some users managed to get their 5.1 surround sound working by either:
a. tuning their mixer configuration, or
b. adding a custom /home/username/.asoundrc file (for 5.1 sound) and then tune their mixer configuration, or
c. join IRC freenode #alsa and ask the sound guru’s there for help.
Some surround sound URLs (for reading on the subject):
Unfortunately, no openSUSE user has created a comprehensive openSUSE how-to for setting up surround sound. Hence one may have to wait a year or more ( ! ) before I get my own surround system (at which time I hope to have learned enough to create such a guide). … or maybe we will get “lucky” and another user will create such a guide before then.
Good luck.
