No sound capture device found on kmix

I’m using suse 11.4 -kde on my lenovo g570. In kmixer I can found playback device but capture device is empty

I recommend you install the application ‘pavucontrol’ and you should see your capture device there. Ensure in the input/output device tabs you select show all input/output devices, and in record ‘all streams’.

No it’s the first time I installed suse in my laptop.

I recommend you install the application ‘pavucontrol’ and you should see your capture device there. Ensure in the input/output device tabs you select show all input/output devices, and in record ‘all streams’.

I download pavucontrol. By default “all monitors” was set in input tab. If I select “show all input devices” and didn’t close pavucontrol, the mic works fine.

But, if I close the pavucontrol, it sets to its default value (“all monitors”). Why it is not saving its configuration.

Do NOT forget to look at the record tab (while recording with mic) and ensure you SHOW ‘all streams’.

As to WHY it is not saving - I DO NOT KNOW. It ‘JUST WORKs’ for me. But some users think it should be OFF by default, so that one obtains NO feedback from mic to speakers. Many users have complained mightily and wrote a rant that sizzled the web, because their mic was on by default, picking up their speaker sound and causing noise/feedback. Its impossible to please everyone.

Some things that might be important. Do NOT run pavucontrol with root permissions. Run it as a regular user. The same when recording. Record as a regular user.

Its possible if you type:


arecord -l
amixer

you may see that your mic default setting is set to MUTE or 0% capture. Maybe you NEED to change your default amixer settings to capture from your mic ?
