no sound at all

I hope all of you can access it because I really need help.

I’ve tried the sound help guide on
SDB:AudioTroubleshooting - openSUSE

but there is no sound whatsoever. The only thing that is happening is a static-y sound coming out of my monitor’s speakers.
I have no “real” speakers, just the one’s that are on my monitor
Monitor: AOC 20 inch (don’t know what model it is)

2019Vwa1 - 20"W
2019Sw1 - 20"W
2016Sw - 20"W
2016Vwa - 20"W
2016Swa - 20"W

could be anyone of these.
I really hope someone can help me out.

Thanks,
Hadesgirl

I see from the script output that your PC has an ALC889A hardware audio codec. Various users have struggled trying to configure those.

Still, before trying anything exotic (such as updating your alsa version) it would help if you set the PC’s mixer up properly. It looks badly setup from what I can see. I note this:

!!Amixer output
!!-------------
!!-------Mixer controls for card 0 [Intel]
Card hw:0 ‘Intel’/‘HDA Intel at 0xea500000 irq 22’
Mixer name : ‘Realtek ALC889A’

Front Right: Playback 0 0%] -51.00dB]
Simple mixer control ‘Center’,0
Mono: Playback 0 [0%] -64.00dB] [on]
Simple mixer control ‘LFE’,0

Simple mixer control ‘Side’,0

Front Right: Playback 0 [0%] -64.00dB] [on]

You have your PCM at 0% (see what I highlighted in Red Bold). That will guarantee no sound. … Please move that up to about 95% when testing for sound, and then once you have sound back off on that to avoid distortion.

I also highlighted in orange some aspects that are not consistent. You have items switched ON at 0% volume. Why? And you have digital audio (IEC958) OFF in one place, but ON for PCM. Why?

Time to invest in an expensive set of speakers. Even the most inexpensive set of speakers will likely have significantly superior sound to your monitor’s speakers.

Anyway … something else I need to look at this further …

Can you also, please provide the output of running in a terminal or konsole the following:
rpm -qa | grep alsa
rpm -qa | grep pulse
rpm -q libasound2
uname -a
cat /etc/modprobe.d/sound

all right I got it to work…little checkbox in volume control (I think) that says if you want the sound on boot up.

apparently I had the sound turned off when it boots up. I did fix everything else by the way, so thanks oldcpu!

Great! Glad to read you have it working now.
