I have no idea as to what “relatively new user” means and hence I don’t know what level to provide support. I’m not particularly keen on teaching Linux basics, so I was hoping some one else would chime in.
I guess not …
So I am just going to ignore that, and if you can’t follow, either ignore my post or speak up …
From that I can see you have an AD1986A. I note your mixer has the external amp control OFF. I believe it should be OFF, but you could toggle it ON to see if that makes a difference. If not, switch it back OFF.
Please ensure you have installed alsa-firmware. If you have not, install it now, and then reboot your PC and test your sound.
When testing your sound, please copy and paste the following into a gnome-terminal or kde konsole:
speaker-test -c2 -l5 -twavYou should hear a ladies voice saying ‘Front left’, ‘Front right’ … 5 times.
I need to know what alsa rpms you have installed. … Please copy and paste the following to a gnome-terminal or a konsole one line at a time, and paste the output here:
rpm -qa | grep alsa
rpm -qa | grep pulse
rpm -q libasound2
uname -a
Its possible we will need to do a hand edit to your /etc/modprobe.d/sound file, but before I propose anything, I need to see the output of the above commands.
