No reply from daemon

Keep trying to update a new install and get this message…“no reply from daemon”…what does that mean?

While I’m asking questions…here’s a quickie…how do you turn off the sound when you’re switching windows…so tired of hearing that “thud”.

open Suse 11 with KDE 4.04

if you are talking about updating suse… the enter in a konsole and type, as root, zypper ref then zypper up.
After updating this way you should be able to update through the clasical way.
