no /proc/asound, test sound works though

I am not able to get any sound from software, other than LoopDub… which when I installed it, the issue began.
I can play test sounds via;

yast —> sound -----> other → play test sound
&
speaker-test -Dplug:front -c2 -l5 -twav

BUT

no aplay, audacity, youtube etc… The programs appear to be playing the sound/audio but nothing comes out. When audacity starts there is a flurry of chtchs sounds, but thats it. Also there is a similar sound from the volume control when I move it, but not the familiar plunk sound.

Incidentally, what is that sound?

I was reading through the troubleshooting guide in this subforum and came upon the section about querying the alsa version, when I discovered that there is no;

/proc/asound

directory whatsoever.

Is the solution to update alsa, https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Alsa-update ? I saw this, but am unsure if 1.) will fix it and 2.) its neccesary

I am asking here, rather than asking the developer of loopdub because I think that this may be something that is more easily resolved from this end, although I may mention it to him, if I get it fixed.

Thank You,

Also, this might help

lspci -k | less

Shedding light

after using rakarrack the sound fails again,

also loopdub.

visiting;

YaST ----> Sound ----> (select card) Edit ------> Reset Values (confirm)

seems to set it strait,

also maybe select analog output from card.
