Looks like your install CD/DVD might have a broken version of openSUSE on it and you installed it … or some other problem completely.

To have the taskbar/panel, you need a package ‘gnome-panel’. To see if it’s installed, and install it if it isn’t: press Alt+F2 and type gnome-terminal. Then enter the following in the terminal:

sudo zypper in gnome-panel

This will install the panel package if it isn’t already installed and will inform you if it is installed. If it isn’t installed, choose to install it. Once completed, logout and log back in, or restart. The panel should be there. If it isn’t, I’m not sure what to do… hopefully someone else can help.

Before doing this I would recommend creating a new user and trying that
user to see if it just your migrated user with the problem.

sudo /usr/sbin/useradd -m newUser
sudo /usr/bin/passwd newUser
#enter the password

Login with the newUser (or whatever you put there) and see if it works.
If so this is just a configuration problem for your current user.

Good luck.
