No package management in Factory.

I was updating my Factory partition and all of a sudden any zypper command results in:

# zypper -v ref
zypper: error while loading shared libraries: libzypp.so.602: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

# zypper -v up
zypper: error while loading shared libraries: libzypp.so.602: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

# zypper -v dup
zypper: error while loading shared libraries: libzypp.so.602: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

# zypper lr
zypper: error while loading shared libraries: libzypp.so.602: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Any one know what’s up?

AFAICS you have some kind of version conflict. Can you run yast in the console? If yes, then search for zyp and update all found packages unconditionally. Same for all yast and yast2 packages.
I’m running Factory as well and I don’t have this problem, so you must have landed in some version mixture. That’s what we get from running the bleeding edge

From a 11.2M2 (KDE) install to latest factory & an update day before yesterday, I too wound up with a Yast/Zypper problem. It would do the rpm DB check & start the download, but hang @ the 1st install. I tried running “SuSEconfig” but that didn’t change anything.

Yesterday afternoon, I un-ticked all repos except factory oss & non-oss. log out/log in, then did:

“zypper dup”

and rebooted. Now everything Yast & zypper related works:)

I then turned the other repos back on, updated those & now everything is working except I don’t have sound in Xine & Kaffeine (other video players are OK). I’ll try messing with that issue today. And, will start stuffing more apps to see what effect they may cause.

Actually, it’s looking very good ATM;)

In Kaffeine > Xine Engine Parameters > Audio > I changed from Pluse Audio to alsa; clicked Apply & restarted Kaffeine; now the sound works;)

Have fun:)

Thanks all for the replies.

Perhaps I should state that I’m not complaining. This is part of the development version experience. And it is why I maintain stable openSUSE and Mandriva partitions.

Let it also be known that dwight misspoke. What I actually was doing was trying to upgrade from 11.2 M 2 to Factory so it is in fact version confusion. I’ll attempt to sort it out today. Unfortunately I can’t open any package management app or run yast from console though I’m gonna try one more time when I boot into that partition before I reinstall. There is a reason for creating separate root and /home partitions…

Thanks again.

Thanks for detailed instructions snakedriver. I did:

# zypper ar http://download.opensuse.org/factory/repo/oss/ Factory-OSS

rebooted and:

# zypper -v ref

and now package management, yast, yast2 are all working again. I then removed all repos [for now] except Factory-OSS, Non-OSS, and debug. I’m starting dup with only OSS enabled. I’ll see how it goes… Even though I screwed the pooch myself in this instance it appears that an install will be unnecessary. Yippee!>:)

Cheers man, from what it looks like you fought your way through some nasty stuff. The rest will work too. When upgrading to Factory from Milestone1 I was expecting a lot of interesting misery like this, had some issues, but now it’s running great.
