no network after 12.3 installation

dear all,
i am new here, i have look in the forum but still can t find a solution. after install in dual boot on my MSI ge70 laptop i can t get a internet connection wired or wireless with opensuse 12.3…
if i do has su a ifconfig -a i only get
lo link encap, boucle locale etc etc…
but no eth0
no wlan…
i really do now what to do…
thank by advence for helping LL

I suggest you open up YaST / Enter the root user password / Network Devices / Network Settings / Overview Tab / Highlight and Edit your network Interface if it says unconfigured. Make sure to select the DHCP bullet. If this is KDE, then go to the Global Option Tab and select the bullit that says “User Controlled by NetworkManage” The KDE icon will come up for you. Then Press the OK Button and you should be in business. There was a problem on a new install of openSUSE 12.3 that often left your network device unconfigured.

Thank You,

hi Daniel,
thank you for answered. i just get the wired network works doing the manipulation that i found here;
[SOLVED] Qualcomm Atheros Bigfoot Killer E2200 Ethernet working in linux - Page 7](http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2008332&page=7)
i am very happy with that already because i look for it since hours…
so now ifconfig -a give me
eth0 link encap etc etc …
lo link encap; boucle locale etc …

still no wlan0 ???
i don t want to break anything by doing to many manipulations…
in Yast “controled by networkmanager” is already selected, it give even a advice message when i start Yast…
have you got a idea of what can i do for the wireless?
thank again best regards LL

go to the wireless forum http://tinyurl.com/4lq2s9z at the
top of the forum are several ‘sticky’ posts, one or more help most
folks get going…and, if they don’t solve your problem then you can
follow their advice on what info the helpers in the wireless forum
need to help you…

so, you got wired working and now the problem is wireless, so read
over there and and post there if you need to…

I would consider now reading the stickies as suggested in the Wireless (https://forums.opensuse.org/english/get-technical-help-here/wireless/) forum and if they do not help, post a wireless connection help request there. I also suggest you enable NetworkManager, if using KDE, just as I suggested in my first message. You can open up the NM icon on the icon tray and configure your wireless info such as SSID and pass phrase there. NM will then use wired networking if it is working or search through the configured wireless connections if no wired network can be found.

Thank You,
