After all the hassle with 11.1 for wifi atheros webcams dmraid
no audiocd and i can go on.
I Ended it all lol!
bij installing the 2.6.26.4-default kernel
the gspca-kpm****** for 2.6.26
Result:
kde4 sound is stable now
wxcam cheese gamorama work without preloading what ever
Yast is working at the speed off 11.0
RT61-pci driver works like a charm no trouble anymore
on the laptop I can compile the madwifi drivers for atheros
Bottom line i have a system acting with the speed off 11.0
with the benefits of 11.1 if there are any.
The kernel comes from 11.1 rc1 on the repositories

2.6.26 kernel on 11.1 rc1? Good to know though!
Might also get better results upgrading to the kernel of the day (KOTD).
Cheers,
Wj
The kernels from KOTD are no more
its now [
and that are only 2.6.27.7 kernels
I do have the 2.6.27.8-1.5 opensuse kernel
I will give them a try to see if its better than 2.6.27.7
no back to 2.6.26.14 again](http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Kernel:/HEAD/openSUSE_Factory/x86_64/)
[QUOTE=susegebr;1921628]The kernels from KOTD are no more

Thanks for that info! Had missed that…
Curious to hear your results and will also be giving it a try.
Cheers,
Wj](http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Kernel:/HEAD/openSUSE_Factory/x86_64/)
I trided the 2.6.27.8-1.5 kernel from opensuse 11.2 beta
Same story as 2.6.27.7.9.1 from 11.1
Network is 20% slower
KDE3/KDE4 start far much slower
DMRAID gives login en logout trouble see system logs
And 2.6.28 still to come
The webcams wont get the info wich resolution they have 640x480
etc etc.
Those gspca is complete **** and should be banned from the kernel
So i go email Michel Xhaard the author off the gpspca1 driver to make a version gspca1 and gspca2 wich will compile on 2.6.27 and 2.6.28 kernels so we can delete gspca from /lib/modules/*kernel version */kernel/drivers/media/video
As far as i have seen only half the webcams work out of the box with the kernel gspca
Bottom line be happy and use the 2.6.26 kernel and gspca1 driver
The following email was sent to Michel Xhaard the author off the gspca1 webcam driver.
Dear Sir
First best wishes for 2009
With opensuse 11.1 we got the 2.6.27 kernel with the in kernel gspca drivers
They dont work as hardly no program will see the camera only those programs wich take raw video form /dev/video0 as VLC-beta
The programs Wxcam Cheese Gamorama got the info from the gspca1 driver what format it had 640x680 and how to decode the signal
That info is lost
To make a long story short, i and many users should be gratefull if we could compile the gspca1 driver on a 2.6.27/28 kernel
Hopefully this wish of mine can come true this year
I hope that for the other users the gspca driver comes out well in time
I don’t use it any more
Took the webcams out and replaced them by
046d:09a1 Logitech, Inc. QuickCam Communicate MP/S5500
running on a uvc-driver you have to download from the webcam-repositorie
Great picture with Vlc and Lucview they support 4vl2
Cheese wont recognize the webcam its a 4vl1 program
So this the end off all the trouble with webcams and programs that use gspca.
P.s back on the 2.6.27.7-9 default kernel
