"no media found" multimedia dvds not available 12,2 x86_64 lxde (gnome)

I have 12.2 x86_64 running lxde (gnomw). The dvdrw drive works fine with data discs, but multimedia discs are a no-show. They don’t show and can’t be mounted. VLC, mplayer etc won’t recognise the disc. Handbrake can’t see it either. I have run the “Multimedia in One-Click”, but still no video. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Make sure you do the switch on Packman too, it’s explained in the guide

Great tutorial, simple to use. I did it all, but no changes. VLC still doesn’t see the disc. As a test I also tried the various options, /dev/sr0, /dev/dvdrw, etc. None of them would eject the drive (as if not mounted), PCManFM does not see it as mounted. I have downloaded the recent mmcheck and will work through it, but still no movies. Next thoughts?

So you can’t see them in the file browser?
/dev/sr0 is correct BTW

In vlc I assume you go
Media > open disc > DVD and change /dev/dvd to /dev/sr0

What about smplayer?

Are this discs commercial or homemade?

I am running through the mmcheck script. As it checks, for example videolan files, it finds some it recommends removing. Should I uninstall those? Basically, should I work it through as it suggests? thanks for all of your help.

Yes
Follow the MM check recommends

Is libdvdcss2 installed?

Are they the packman versions?

Videolan files? Are you mixing files from packman and videolan? That
will give trouble.

yes, libdvdcss2 is installed and it is the packman version. thanks

I was able to clean up most of the system through the mmcheck. Thanks again to the openSuSE community! However when I got to check #16 it threw this mess up. Need a little help in what to do next here.

and on the digital file, plays it but as encrypted trash.

I reset the sound via YaST and it works again.

New dvd, same issues. A small glimmer of hope in that VLC can now at least eject the disc in sr0 (open the dvd tray). But still nothing plays.

I grabbed some additional discs. The good news is that some worked, thank you all. Some still however don’t. I hate hollywood’s affair with m$ and apple.
