Hello, I have an encrypted OpenSUSE Leap 15.0 installation that has no LUKS password input GUI but only text mode to input the password, while my other installation has a pretty GUI.
Wonder it can be solved? I remember about a year ago it was said that it can’t be fixed. Don’t know if there’s progress that I don’t know.
What’s to be solved?
Normally, that GUI password entry screen is provided by Plymouth. Personally, I turn that off and use the text mode input. As long as you are able to input the password one way or another, this really isn’t a LUKS problem. Maybe it’s a Plymouth problem.
I don’t know the current status of Plymouth. For a while, it was giving me the text screen with three green boxes instead of the graphic screen. I’m pretty sure that’s fixed for my display. But it probably depends on the graphics card.
I guess I just prefer those text messages indicating boot progress.
I probably didn’t help much – sorry about that. But perhaps I at least narrowed your problem down to “Plymouth”.
