no longer detecting working USB drive

I have an external WD Elements 1TB drive which I was using for videos. Suddenly Linux stopped detecting it. The partition tool cannot see it, and doing “grep -Ff <(hwinfo --disk --short) <(hwinfo --usb --short)” shows nothing plugged in. The drive’s light is steadily blinking on and off, and I can mount it and use it on my Western Digital TV box without any problems. It’s just that I can’t mount it on my Linux anymore, and the system doesn’t even detect it. It was automounting until a week ago, then nothing. I have no clue why or what to do. Can anyone please help?

It turns out that the hub was bad. Weird, because everything else plugged into it works, just not this drive, and the drive works elsewhere.

But thanks anyway for all the helpful suggestions everyone inundated me with, it sure saved me a few seconds of figuring out what to look at next.

We’re all volunteers here (with other priorities beyond this participating in this help forum), so it’s likely that others who could help had not yet read your post, and you never mentioned the existence of a hub anyway.
