No login screen (all white) with KDE on a Ryzen 7950X system using internal graphics

Hello everyone,

I’ve been using OpenSUSE Tumbleweed with KDE on a Ryzen 7950X system using the internal processor graphics without problems for several months. However, since kernel 6.2 has been released, the graphical interface is no longer working as expected. Instead of the KDE login screen appearing after booting the system, the screen becomes white with only the mouse pointer visible. The workaround I found is to deinstall the current kernel and go back to 6.1.12 which was the last working version. In the meantime the system has been out of order for more than two months (broken RAM). Now that the RAM has been replaced, the login screen issue is still the same with kernel 6.3.9, so I decided to post this message. Is there any solution to this problem?

Best regards,
Axel

My suggestion would be that you report this as a bug.

In the meantime, you can add “oldest” to the “multiversion.kernels” line in “/etc/zypp/zypp.conf” to make sure that your 6.1.12 kernel is not deleted in a future update – I am assuming that is your oldest kernel.

Can you still switch to a VT at this point? It might be interesting to change from SDDM to GDM or LightDM perhaps, and see whether that works…
