I am installing from OpenSuse Linux 11.2 DVD. After I hit install, the screen with keyboard layout choice comes up, but neither my mouse nor my keyboard work on that screen (they did work until that screen)
I have Vista and Win7 installed on separate partitions. My keyboard is a logitech S520 and mouse LX5, both wireless, connected to a USB port.
I did try to connect a wired keyboard and mouse over USB (front ports), did not work.
Very odd indeed, did you try the live CD installer?
Usually logitech products work with linux, so the issue might not be there.
Are your batteries fresh?
Is everything connected properly?
Have to consider all factors.
Actually i did have that same model logitech as you once, worked fine with linux… my issue with it is that the paint they used on the keys was rubbish, I had over half my letters on the keyboard rub off on me
I have a wired Microsoft USB optical mouse and it sometimes goes dead. (The red light below is off.) I just plug it out and plug it back in and it starts working again. This mostly happens in Windows!
Everything is connected properly, batteries are fresh.
The odd thing is that when I boot from the DVD, the keyboard seems to work at first (can scroll through the menu and hit “install”). It’s when the first screen with keyboard layout selection comes up that I have no more keyboard or mouse working
Can you point me to the “live installer” so I can try?
Some PCs have a setting in BIOS that allows one to change their USB to Legacy Mode. That will sometimes solve a keyboard/mouse USB problem. You could check for that in your PCs BIOS.
I have put all BIOS options to legacy mode. No difference. Actually; the DVD does start in the first screen with the keyboard active (I can choose kernel, driver etc…).
When I hit install, the installer loads, then first screen with keyboard selection / welcome. No more keyboard.
I tried to load Mandriva One 2009.1 from CD. Also get into the first screen, but then after launching, screen blanks.
Actually, it seems to be a problem with Acer desktops (I have a Aspire M5641). The proposal in above link is to switch off ACPI support in Bios. This did not help, but I started the Linux installer without local APIC (yes APIC and not ACPI) support, it finally worked.
Am a happy newcomer to Linux world, will know play around.
