No KDE Notification Sounds after upgrading from Leap 15.5.to 15.6

Hi Gang,

I updated to 15.6 via the terminal. After rebooting, I had to manually enable the sound device in YaST, and I get sound from playing media.

However, I get no no notification sounds from KDE. The Notification Volume in the audio settings is set to maximum, but I get no sound from actions such as permanently deleting a file or emptying the trash. The really odd thing is, if I go to to configure Plasma Workspace notifications, I can play the empty trash sound, but it isn’t played by the Trash widget. I don’t see any sound notification settings for Dolphin.

Thanx in advance for any insights!

Take Care, Rod

System settings / notifications / system notifications

Yes, that is where notification settings are; as I noted above, that is where I was able to play the empty trash sound. There is no notification setting for Dolphin there.

I discovered that pipewire-pulse was not installed. I installed it and started the service, and rebooted, but no change.

GAH! Now after the screen locks, there is no sound at all. If I go to the audio control panel, the HDMI output is listed under Inactive Devices. If I hit Test, it turns back on. Still no notification sounds, tho’…

Cheers, Rod

Oops; It is not the screen lock, but when I switch my KVM switch to the other computer that makes the HDMI Audio go inactive.

It turns out that this is apparently a bug in KDE…

I enabled the login/out sounds and they do work. I now need to figure out how to get my sound to behave when I use the KVM switch.

I got the sound and KVM to play nice by uninstalling pipewire-pulse, then locking the HDMI output in pavucontrol, and in the KDE Audio Settings, enabling Show Inactive Devices and Add Virtual Output, and selecting the Virtual Output. It has been working well for a couple of days.
